Concrete work we do

Each card leads to the details. Price turns mostly on size, base work and finish, while timing turns on weather and any city steps, and your written estimate shows what's included in yours.

  • A new driveway starts with digging out and packing the base, so the slab sits on firm ground and sheds water away from your house and garage.

  • Want room for a table and grill? We pour patios that fall gently away from the house, so rain runs off instead of pooling at your door.

  • Stamped concrete is pressed with a pattern and color while it's still soft, giving a patio, walk or pool deck the look of stone, brick or tile.

  • We build walks and side paths the way I learned on a city crew, with control joints, shallow grooves cut so any crack runs where we chose.

  • Cracked, stained or sinking garage floor? We break out the old slab, rebuild the base and pour a new floor that sits level and takes daily parking.

  • Decorative concrete covers color, exposed stone, borders and special finishes, for homeowners who want a patio or entry to match the house instead of plain gray.

  • Where a yard slopes, we pour concrete walls that hold the ground back, with a footing underneath and a path for water to drain behind.

  • What goes under a shop, studio or addition? We pour interior concrete floors on a packed base, finished flat for the flooring or use you have planned.

  • A pool deck needs to drain away from the water and give wet feet grip, so we slope it with care and leave a light texture on top.

  • Chipped or uneven front steps? We form and pour new concrete steps with each one the same height, so they're easier and safer to climb.

  • We build slab foundations for additions, garages and outbuildings, with the ground prepared and rebar, the steel that ties the slab together, set to your project's plans.

  • Building something new that has to stay put? We dig, form and pour foundations for houses, additions and small commercial buildings, following the plans for your project.

  • We build concrete parking lots for shops, offices and rental properties, graded so water runs off and built for the cars and trucks that use them.

  • Footings are the concrete pads and strips that carry a wall, post, patio cover or addition, so we dig them to firm ground and set them to plan.

  • If part of a slab or foundation has settled and doors stick, we lift it back toward level and fill the gap beneath so it has support again.

  • Need an opening or trench in existing concrete? We saw-cut slabs and walls for a clean, straight edge instead of breaking them out by hammer.

How a job runs

Here's what happens from your first call to the final walk-through, so you know who you'll talk to and who handles what at each stage.

  1. Call or send a message

Call (951) 631-9520 or send the contact form with a few lines about the job, and we'll reply within one business day.

    A reply from us

  2. I visit and write it up

I come out to look at the ground, the access and how water moves, then write an estimate that says what's included, what isn't and who handles any city steps.

    A written estimate

  3. We build it

Our lead finisher runs the crew, I'm on site for the pour, and if the weather turns we'd rather move a pour than rush it.

    Your new concrete

  4. We walk it together

Before we pack up, we walk the finished work with you and go over curing, the wait while new concrete gains strength before you walk or drive on it.

    A final walk-through

Built to a city crew's standard

I learned concrete on a city public works crew, pouring sidewalks, curbs and ramps to a written spec with an inspector watching. In 2013 I started Riverside Concrete Company to bring that same care to homes and small properties, and I still work to that standard on every job.

Most of our calls come from homeowners who need a driveway, patio or walk, and some come from property owners with a parking lot, a wall or a foundation that needs attention. Either way, I'll be straight with you about what your site needs, and I'll tell you when a different approach or a specialist would serve you better.

We're based in Riverside and work in many of the cities around it across the Inland Empire, from older neighborhoods with tired driveways to newer homes adding patios and pool decks. There's more about our business and how we got here if you'd like to read it.

Before you hire

A few plain points I'd want any homeowner to weigh before hiring for concrete, whoever you choose, so you can compare quotes on what really matters.

  • Where the money really goes

Much of a fair price sits in the base under the slab, so a low bid that skips digging out and packing usually shows up later as settling.

  • Repair or replace the slab

A single crack or one sunken section can often be cut out or raised, but a slab broken up all over usually makes more sense to replace than patch.

  • Plain, broom or stamped finish

A broom finish, light lines dragged across wet concrete for grip, is simple and hard-wearing, while stamped or colored concrete looks dressier but costs more and needs resealing.

  • What to ask a contractor

Ask who'll be on site for the pour, how the base is prepared, where the joints go and who handles any permit, and get the answers in writing.

How we treat your Riverside home

Your driveway and yard are part of everyday life, so we protect the lawn, plants and walls next to the work, keep the walks and street clear, and sweep up before we leave each day. If a delay comes up, you'll hear about it from me directly instead of finding an empty site.

Before anything starts, I'll walk you through why each step is there, from digging out the base to where the joints go. If something turns up once the old slab is out, I'll show you and talk it through with you before we go any further.

From the first look to the final walk-through, you'll deal with me, and you'll hear the reason for each step before we take it.

Questions homeowners ask us

Straight answers to what Riverside homeowners ask most about cost, timing, cracking and city permits, so you know what to expect before we meet.

How much does a new concrete driveway or patio cost in Riverside, CA?

It depends mostly on the size, how much old concrete comes out, how much digging and packing the base needs, and the finish you choose, so I give you a figure only after seeing the site. Thickness, rebar and tight access for the truck also move it, and stamped or colored work costs more than a plain broom finish.

Why do concrete quotes from different contractors vary so much?

Mostly because they aren't pricing the same work, since one quote may include a dug-out, packed base, cut joints and haul-away while another leaves them out. That's why our written estimate spells out the base work, the joints and the cleanup, so you can line it up against another bid fairly.

How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?

You can walk on new concrete well before you can drive on it, and I'll tell you when each is safe for your job, because curing time depends on the mix, the thickness and the weather. Driving on it too soon is one of the surest ways to crack a slab, so it's worth parking on the street a while longer.

Is Riverside Concrete Company licensed and insured?

Yes, we're licensed and fully insured, and you're welcome to ask for proof before any work starts. The City of Riverside also requires businesses working in the city to hold a City Business License, and its Business License Division can answer questions about it.

How do you prepare the ground before pouring concrete?

We dig out to firm soil, check where water will run, and pack a proper base before any concrete arrives, because a slab is only as steady as the subgrade, the ground it sits on. A base that's just raked level tends to settle with the dirt under it, and we set the slope so water runs away from your house, not toward it.

Do you guarantee your concrete work?

Yes, our work is satisfaction guaranteed. We back that by doing the base, joints and drainage properly and by putting what's included in writing, so there are no surprises about what you're paying for.

Will my new concrete slab crack like the old one did?

Concrete can still crack, but we plan for it by cutting the joints on time, so cracks follow lines we chose instead of wandering across the slab. A packed base, and rebar where the job calls for it, keep the pieces level and together, and we avoid pouring in midday heat that can leave a weak, dusty top.

Do I need a permit for concrete work in Riverside, CA?

It depends on the job, so check with the city's Building & Safety Division, because Riverside requires permits for most construction and its no-permit list names finish work like painting and tile, not driveways or patios. One exception the city lists is a retaining wall no taller than 4 feet, measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall, as long as it isn't carrying extra load from above or holding back certain liquids.
